When the pizza cravings hit, this pepperoni pizza has you covered. This pizza doesn’t have your traditional crust. Made with cottage cheese and flour, this crust is high-protein but still has a crispy deep-dish feel.
This one is so much fun to make because you can add your favorite pizza toppings and play with delicious pizza flavors. My favorite is using leftover chicken and making bbq chicken pizza. It’s perfect for an easy lunch or delicious snack when you need something savory.

Ingredients and Substitutions:
These are the main ingredients and substitutions for this cottage cheese pizza. See the recipe card below for the full ingredient list and instructions.

- Self-Rising Flour: in order for the pizza dough to rise properly, you’ll use self-rising flour which has baking powder and salt already in it.
- Low-Fat Cottage Cheese: or full-fat cottage cheese. You can use fat-free cottage cheese but they tend to be a little too watery so choose one that’s a little thicker.
- Marinara Sauce: this will be our pizza sauce. You can use your favorite pizza sauce instead. If using pure tomato sauce, add salt and some herbs and spices to add flavor.
- Mozzarella Cheese: we kept it classic with this one but feel free to play with different cheeses like cheddar cheese, blue cheese crumbles or feta cheese.
- Turkey Pepperoni: for meat lovers: add sausage, ground beef, salami, etc. Try my Big Mac pizza for a Big Mac version of this pizza.
Variations
- Add your favorite toppings: black olives, green peppers, red onions and mushrooms.

How to make this cottage cheese pizza (a step-by-step visual guide):
Step 1: make the dough
In a large mixing bowl combine the flour, cottage cheese, salt, basil and oregano (image 1). Using a rubber spatula and eventually your hands mash the ingredients together until they begin to stick and form a large dough ball (image 2). This will take some work and time but it will come together. Just keep going!
The dough will be VERY sticky and that is ok! Lay the ball onto a floured surface and roll it around so it’s coated in the flour (image 3). Lightly press it down into a thick disk (image 4).

Step 2: transfer to skillet and add toppings
Transfer the disk to a large 12-inch cast iron (or larger) and press it out so it evenly reaches the edges of the cast iron surface (image 5). Top the dough with the marinara sauce almost to the edge leaving a little bit of the crust showing around the edge (image 6). Top the sauce with the shredded cheese (image 7) and pepperonis (image 8). Lightly spray the edges of the crust with cooking spray to help them brown in the oven and place the pizza in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Step 3: bake, cool and cut
Remove the pizza from the oven (image 9) and top with any additional toppings like red pepper flakes, Parmesan cheese or basil. Let the pizza cool in the pan for a few minutes before removing and cutting into 6 pieces. For best flavors season with some Italian seasoning and fresh basil on top.
